We're fortunate to have
many scans of WKLO music surveys on
this Website, but viewing them is a problem for the vision-impaired.
So we've begun to post text-based surveys on
this page, which can be enjoyed by
those with screen-reading software. |
October 1, 2006
More scans of 1968, 1969,
1970 and 1971 WKLO Music Surveys have
been added. We extracted some of the survey photos and put them on
Photo Page 4. Thanks to Clyde Phillips
III for letting us borrow the surveys to scan. |
September 29, 2006
Rip Rinehart sent us a scan
of a print-ad for the short-lived WKLO-TV. Find it
here. |

Our appreciation to Rob Calhoun
for providing two 1991 Courier-Journal columns about the
end of WDJX-AM (formerly WKLO, WKJJ and
WCII) and the WKLO DJ Reunion Weekend.
We now know what
newsman Robert Paul Westpheling sounded like on WKLO in the Spring
of 1970, thanks to the
aircheck he's contributed. |
|
April 19, 2006
We added an
aircheck of a complete
1968 morning drive newscast from J. Paul Roberts. It includes a bit
of WKLO DJs Bill Bailey and Jack Sorbi. |

Thanks to late '60s
newsman J. Paul Roberts for the great pictures we've added to
Photo Page 3 -- plus the scans of the
"What Does It Take To Be Number One"
promotional piece that
show photos of all the people who worked at WKLO in the late '60s, |
|
April 1, 2006
Chances are that if
you're viewing this Website, you're interested in Louisville's Top
40 radio history. One of the best pieces we've seen on that subject
is a March 1971 Louisville Scene feature. Thanks to Leonard Yates,
we're delighted to offer it here. |
|
March 26, 2006
Former WKLO GM Ernie
Gudridge contributed some new items for the
Toys for Tots Page. |
|
March 25, 2006

Check out the note
from Jim Rivers (WKLO DJ in '70 and '71)
under his listing on the DJ Info Page.
We've also been doing
some sprucing up around the site, upgrading the menu system and
hopefully making some of the pages easier to navigate. |
|
March 17, 2006
We've rearranged the
pictures in the Photo Pages into a
rough chronological order, plus moved many images to the
Promotional Items area of
the Surveys Page. |

Jim Nall contributed a
1967 WKLO QSL letter which we've posted in the Promotional Items
section of the Surveys Page. |

Thanks to Leonard
Yates we have our first 1962 WKLO music

Allen Bryan became
WKLO's News Director in 1965. We had questions about how the news
department at the Big 1080 worked. Allen had answers. Very
interesting answers. Read our Q&A here. |
|

sweet...that's our newest aircheck from
Carl Truman Wiglesworth.
|
|
February 14, 2006
He did overnights at
WKLO in '73 and '74 and has had a stellar career in radio

Listeners to WKLO in
the early 50s will appreciate announcer Ed Farron's letter under his
listing on the DJs Page. |
|
January 27, 2006
You might not remember
Steve Warren from his 1963 WKLO "Summer Fun Festival" gig, but this
New Albany High School graduate remembers a lot about WKLO (and
WAKY) in the early '60s. Due partly to what he learned at 'KLO,
Steve went on to be a major market air personality. Find our audio
interview with Steve here. |
|
January 9, 2006
For our first new item of 2006, we
thank Tim Tolbert. Want to hear how the WKLO call letters are being
used today? Download a brief aircheck
here. |
|
December 5, 2005
Thanks to Jay Marks for 1967 WKLO
airchecks of Mitch Michael
and Carl Truman Wiglesworth.
Jay also provided a Summer '67 aircheck of
Ken Douglas, who by that
time had moved to WINN -- but we thought many WKLO fans might enjoy
it. |
|
November 19, 2005
We've posted three big .zip files of
'71, '72 and '73 WKLO music surveys -- many of which haven't been on

Thanks to Brian Kauffman for his

thank you to Buddy Tate for his contribution. |

September 23, 2005
War On The Airwaves is an article from the Scene section of the
Courier-Journal from March 29, 1980. It offered a snapshot of the
state of Louisville's "rock radio" (including WKLO successor KJ-100)
right before 1980's Spring ratings period kicked off. Thanks to
former WKLO Boss Jock Ron Lake for saving it for 25 years so we
could share it with the world. |
|
September 12, 2005
WKLO was history by
1982, but visitors to this site might be interested in the '82
Courier-Journal article "Voices
In The Morning" which profiled all of Louisville's commercial
radio AM drive DJs at that time -- including some with WKLO
connections. Thanks to Leonard Yates for making it available for us
to transcribe. |
|
September 7, 2005
We added a couple of
new images to Photo Page 13 thanks to
Ron Lake, plus Ron Lake's
1973 WKLO rejection
letter from Bill Hennes and the
1973 Louisville ARB ratings.

Thanks to Rip
Rinehart, our exhibit of the PAMS
Series 34 WKLO jingle package is nearly twice as long -- and
even better quality, as it was taken right from the PAMS reference
reel. Plus, you can view scans of the original WKLO PAMS reference
reel cue sheets. |
