Thanks to Jim Brewer, who recently sent us an incredible unscoped WKLO aircheck he recorded on Sunday, October 13, 1974 while a freshman at the University of Louisville. Even though we had to snip out some of the music for online presentation, all the jock breaks, commercials and "station stuff" (including some wonderful Mike Rivers production) are left intact for your listening pleasure in our first 1080WKLO.com aircheck of Fleetwood Gruver.

A 10,000 watt ten-eighty thank you to John Frank of Oakland, California who surprised us with text-based versions of dozens of WKLO Music Surveys from the 1960s. Not only does this let the sight-impaired with screen-reading software to enjoy the surveys, but it lets everybody scan through the years of WKLO hits (and misses) a lot quicker. Louisville native Bob Cline did two tours as a WKLO DJ in the 1970s, plus put in airtime at several other Derby City radio stations in the '70s and '80s. On March 16, 2007 Bob talked to us about the station that inspired him to enter the radio biz, being a Louisville radio listener in the '60s, some of the folks he worked with at the Big 1080, his mentors, and his thoughts on the state of radio today. War On The Airwaves is an article from the Scene section of the Courier-Journal from March 29, 1980. It offered a snapshot of the state of Louisville's "rock radio" (including WKLO successor KJ-100) right before 1980's Spring ratings period kicked off. Thanks to former WKLO Boss Jock Ron Lake for saving it for 25 years so we could share it with the world.

WKLO was history by 1982, but visitors to this site might be interested in the '82 Courier-Journal article "Voices In The Morning" which profiled all of Louisville's commercial radio AM drive DJs at that time -- including some with WKLO connections.
